Lyrics

I love being a mother to boys. Never a day goes by where I am not shaking  my head or laughing out loud.

Today, Andrew and I decided to surprise Jacob and pick him up at school. As we were walking out the door, I looked at the skies and noticed that some dark clouds were rolling in. For some reason when my brain processed the fact that it would rain, it did not process the fact that I would need an umbrella. Andrew and I arrive at the school in a complete torrential downpour. Because I had to stop at the office to get a parking decal, Andrew and I were forced to run through the rain to make it to the Elementary School. I walk into the office looking like I had just taken a shower. Seriously, I am completely soaked.

When I see Jacob he has his shirt tucked in and his pants pulled up to his chest. I thought he was being silly, but then realized he had had his shirt that way for some time, and had no intention of pulling it out. My "he's done something bad" sense kicks in and I ask what has happened to his shirt. After repeatedly telling me, "nothing," I finally convince him to untuck his shirt. He pulls  it out and I have a perfectly clear view of his belly-button . There is about a four inch hole right smack in the middle of his shirt. I ask him, "What happened!?" Answer: "I was playing with scissors." Looks like Jacob has the same problem with cutting tools as his little brother. I would have been upset, but Jacob was so embarrassed (and it looked pretty darn funny) that I did not make an issue out of it. However, I did inform Jacob that if his scissors accidentally attack him again, he is responsible for purchasing a new uniform shirt.

I ran into a friend as I was heading out of the office with the boys and stopped to chat for a while. I finally deicide that I need to head off and turn around to find that the boys have taken off. Where are they? On the playground, in the rain, playing tag.

We leave the school and head to the club looking like the biggest group of rag-tag ruffians ever. We are all completely drenched and Jacob is wearing a shirt that looks like some kind of male nod to "Flashdance". While we are driving, the song "If You Wanna Be My Lover", by the Spice Girls, comes onto the radio. Jacob immediately pipes up, "This is from 'Chicken Little'!" Then Andrew adds, "I like when the pigs sings, 'If you wanna be my mother'."

"If you wanna be my mother"? Ah....the innocence (and humor) of children.
